Dutch Lawmakers Scrutinise Third-Party Licensing Setup

Gambling

Highlights

  • Dutch politicians have slammed the third-party license arrangements.

  • VNLOK spokesperson said that trade organizations aim to uplift safe and legal online gambling.

A group of parliament members, including Mirjam Bikker, Sarah Dobbe, Diederik van Dijk, and Tijs van den Brink, has raised five questions about the third-party licensing framework in parliament.

They cited Evoke’s strategic partnership with ComeOn Group as an example to give a better context for this issue. The agreement meant the operator’s 888 brand re-entry wth a license that ComeOn Group already held for its Godwits brand.

These parliamentary questions were framed in reference to how operators that had previously offered gambling without a license can get into the market through third-party license structures.

The Remote Gambling Act legalized online gambling software in the Netherlands in 2021. Before this came into effect, many operators, including Evoke, withdrew.

Questions were also addressed regarding the future course of action to be taken by the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) and the government to abolish this licensing structure.

State Secretary for Justice and Security Claudia van Bruggen will be expected to find solutions to the problems within 3 weeks.

The Netherlands industry trade body, VNLOK, officials said  that their policies are intended only to promote safe and legal online gambling, which aligns with national interests.
