Senator Irajá Abreu calls for land-based casino legalisation, stating it could lead to tax revenue benefiting the country.

Apart from just taxes, Irajá also claims that this move could have a profound impact on the underperforming tourism sector.
Brazilian Senator Irajá Abreu once again favoured legalising land-based casinos, arguing that such measures could bring BRL 20 million in taxes. It is noted that online gambling regulation was in effect from 1st January this year, but land-based betting is still considered illegal.
It is despite the approval of  PL 2,234/2022 by Brazil’s Justice and Citizenship Committee. This bill covers land-based casinos, bingo, jogo do bicho, and horse racing betting.Â
Senator Irajá, in his statement, said, “We will create a new business environment in Brazil, which will generate more than a million new jobs for the Brazilian people. Apart from an increase in tax revenue, it can also boost the underperforming tourism sector. Â
He mentions that despite being considered, these are widespread across Brazil. He concluded it by saying, “And the government does not collect, the Brazilian people do not collect a single cent in taxes, the government does not monitor, and we are unable to protect citizens from this game that I call gambling.
