The country’s Ministry of Health in Bulgaria is set to make new rules in an effort to raise financial support for gambling-related harm. The policy intends to collect funds to incentivize schemes that address gambling addiction and protect young users.Â
Implementing this shouldn’t be a problem, as this bill follows changes to Bulgaria’s Gambling Act 2024. The reform made in 2024 mandates all licensed operators to make an annual contribution towards responsible gambling. All these funds get transferred to the National Revenue Agency.Â
The Agency ensures that these funds are distributed equally between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. New legislation is said to introduce a structured framework that allows eligible municipalities, hospitals, schools, non-governmental organizations, and public agencies.
Clear guidelines are set to avoid discrepancies regarding fund utilisation. It states that political parties, religious organizations, and entities with unresolved financial obligations will be omitted.
The final draft has not been made yet, as the proposal is open for public recommendations. It seems to be a massive step forward by Bulgaria to tackle gambling addiction.
