KSA Issues First Eight Online Licence Renewals In The Netherlands

The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has issued its first eight follow-up online gambling licences as the Netherlands begins its first major licence renewal cycle since the regulated online market launched in 2021.

The renewed licences will allow the operators to continue providing online gambling services in the Netherlands from 1 October 2026 until 30 September 2031.

The licence recipients include TOTO Online BV, Holland Casino NV, Play North Limited, FPO Nederland BV, Bingoal Nederland BV, Hillside (New Media Malta) Plc, NSUS Malta Limited and Betent BV.

Their brands include TOTO, Winnitt, Holland Casino Online, Kansino, FairPlay Casino, Bingoal, Bet365, GG Poker and Betcity.

The initial online gambling licences were issued in 2021 and are due to expire at the end of September 2026. Existing licence holders were required to submit applications for the next five-year period.

The renewal process has involved greater scrutiny of operators’ compliance records during their first five years in the Dutch market.

Operators with previous compliance violations were required to explain how they addressed those issues and what measures they had introduced to prevent similar breaches.

The KSA has also introduced an exit-plan requirement. Operators must explain how they would responsibly wind down their Dutch operations if their licence is revoked, not renewed or voluntarily surrendered during the five-year licence period.

The regulator noted that several applicants received additional points for attention, indicating areas where further compliance improvements are expected.

The first renewals provide an early indication of how existing operators are being assessed as the Netherlands enters its next phase of regulated online gambling.
