Indonesia Cracks Down on Betting Fraud Before World Cup

Indonesia’s Police Forces have issued a nationwide warning ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup about online fraud and illegal betting.

National Police spokesman Trunoyudo has appealed to the audience to report any suspected gambling activity.
Just as excitement builds ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Indonesia’s National Police has warned fans against participating in gambling, including sports betting. Gambling in general is considered an illegal activity in the country.
Latest reports highlight that authorities seem deeply concerned that gambling criminals who escaped a crackdown in Cambodia have continued their operations in Indonesia. Recently, the enforcement actions were seen when police in West Jakarta arrested 320 foreign nationals collectively operating 75 gambling sites.Â
This group of suspects originated from various Asian nations, including China, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Apart from Indonesia, displaced Cambodian gambling operations are reportedly relocating to other Asian destinations, including the Philippines and Timor-Leste, as well as South Africa.
The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from 11 June to 19 July across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The global event is set to attract at least 6 billion viewers with 48 teams participating in a tournament of 104 matches.Â
TVRI has received the streaming rights for the World Cup in Indonesia, with its coverage through 34 regional stations.Â
