Indiana Casino Expansion Campaigns Moves Ahead

The result of the referendums will decide the fate of casinos in Allen, DeKalb, or Steuben counties. While all three counties are holding referendums, only one gaming licence is available. Thus, even if all counties vote in favour of the casinos, the project can only go ahead in one location.
Some political action committees are trying to encourage residents to support casino gambling. The Advance Fort Wayne-Allen County PAC has started its “Yes for Allen” effort in Allen County. The group is pushing for the economic benefits a casino could bring, like jobs and added revenue.
Also, a Steuben County campaign named “Steuben – Where Fun Wins” needs your support. The group believes that being near the highways will draw traffic from Michigan and Ohio.
Others oppose the planned expansion. The Coalition for a Better Indiana is concerned about possible crime and social problems tied to a casino.
But any successful casino project will need a significant amount of investment. The law needs at least $500 million for the project. It also requires a $150 million licensing fee. The project must reach at least 60% completion within 2 years of the issuance of the licence.
But as the November election is approaching, both sides have limited time to sway voters. The election results will decide if Indiana gets closer to building another major casino.
