Spain’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Social Rights has ordered the General Directorate for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) to organise a grant research programme focused on gambling-related disorders.
The total budget of €950,620 has been allocated to studies addressing the prevention, effects, and risks associated with gambling activities. The funding scheme is open to a broad category of research institutions. This includes public and private universities, research institutions, non-profit organisations, and development centres.
However, eligible applicants should demonstrate their established research remit for gambling studies.
The DGOJ has given more attention to research on gambling harm as part of the regulatory agenda, being specific about how it impacts younger demographics.
Key requirements are that proposals should include at least one of the six priority research lines to be relevant. The deadline for research submission is 30 June 2026.
The amendment to the Gambling Regulation Act, which enforces strict rules on the use of famous people or influencers in gambling advertisements, is open for public discussion.
