2025 SURVEY: ONE IN SIX SWEDES ENGAGE IN iGAMING

iGaming

Highlights

  • The recently published research report states that nearly 18% agreed to engage with online casinos in 2025.

  • Eldhagen’s appointment as state secretary is part of a broader initiative to curb offshore operators.

The nationwide study conducted by affiliate Casinofeber had surveyed 3,463 individuals and analyzed 1,004 active iGaming players. The findings suggest that 18% of Swedes (one in six) played online casino games in 2025. And one in five, roughly 24%, have participated in online betting in the same year.

The polling, held from July 3rd to July 17th, 2025, showed that slot games are more attractive to casino players, with 49% preferring them over other iGaming activities. Football accounted for 63% of the sports bettors in the previous year.

The study further emphasized the lack of consumer awareness about the gambling black market. It revealed that more than half the players (65%) never knew how to differentiate between incense and unlicensed gambling sites. However, 18% accepted having used unregulated gambling platforms.

The statistical data from Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, reported a channelization rate of 85% for 2024.

This report was released amid the structural changes in the Swedish regulatory body. The government has hired Erik Eldhagen for the post of state secretary responsible for overseeing gambling regulations.

The move to appoint Eldhagen supports ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal iGaming operators.
