KSA Tells Dutch Operators to Scrap "Share Your Bet" Feature
HighlightsÂ
KSA Regulator has urged licensed operators to remove ‘Share Your Bet’ functions, as they are considered gambling advertising.
The coalition government agrees to a total ban on all online gambling advertising.
The Dutch gambling regulator, the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has ordered licensed gambling operators to end social betting functionality across their platforms.
This feature first became popular on sportsbook platforms, where punters can invite their friends to bet via social networks like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Email. This meant that the participants could view wagers instantly and reciprocate them.Â
But now the Netherlands Gambling Authority has deemed this share-your-bet feature to violate the advertising code of conduct established under the Remote Gambling Act (KOA).Â
The KSA has stated that the operator and provider have no control over who receives the shared messages, and that this feature therefore does not align with advertising standards. Licensed operators have been subject to strict limits on targeted advertising, with major reforms implemented in July 2024 and July 2025.Â
The coalition government, however, is looking to support a complete ban on gambling advertising in the Netherlands. The party members quoted that aggressive promotion following market liberalization has led to greater visibility for younger and vulnerable groups that are highly prone to facing gambling-related issues.Â
