2026 LAUNCH SET AS ALBERTA ESTABLISHES iGAMING FRAMEWORK

iGaming

Highlights

  • The regulatory framework for the Alberta iGaming market has been set up by the provincial government.

  • Alberta has the youngest adult population in Canada.

The regulatory framework is ready for an open Alberta iGaming market on Wednesday. Previously, the authorities thought of opening the gambling market in 2024.

Alberta’s de facto iGaming minister, Dale Nally, has indicated a robust unregulated iGaming market that makes up for 70% of the province’s online gambling market. At the same time, Play Alberta remains the only site that has been legally approved by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis.

Nally suggests that “For Albertans who choose not to gamble, the best option is not to start. With unregulated iGaming widely available in our province, it is our responsibility to step in, regulate the market and hold private providers to the highest standards to protect Albertans, particularly our youth.”

As per the Edmonton Journal, Nally anticipates the operators within a few months. The Alberta region in Canada is densely populated by youth, with the highest per Capita GDP and also the highest per capita spending on gambling in Canada.

Paly Alberta made $275 million with overall sales for 2025, beating the previous year’s tally by $35 million.
