HighlightsĀ

  • Wisconsin lawmakers are showing their preparedness for legitimate sports betting online.

  • Nine out of eleven tribes have allowed for sports betting as a part of their tribal gaming compacts.Ā

During the previous week, Wisconsin lawmakers announced a newly formulated bill, LBR-4723/1, to legalise online sports betting in the region. The bill intends to amend state tribal gaming pacts, allowing online sportsbook servers on tribal land.Ā

The bill was introduced by four representatives recently, namely Rep Kalan Haywood, Rep Tyler August, Senator Howard Marklein and Kristin Dassler-Alfheim. The lawmakers have sent the proposals, hoping for more co-sponsors to sign by Wednesday.

So far, the state has not introduced any legal framework to approve sports betting. The major developments in the sector were seen when Governor Tony Evers signed a gambling agreement with the Oneida Indian Nation, enabling in-person sportsbooks at its casinos in the state.Ā

9 out of 11 tribes in the state have now included sports betting in their tribal gaming compacts. The bill is likely to resonate with the system present in Florida, enabling sportsbook operators to have servers on tribal land. This allows wagers to place their bets anywhere in the Wisconsin region.
