Vietnam Approves Sun Group to Develop $2B Integrated Casino Project

The public of Quang Ninh Province has agreed to the integrated casino resort initiative from Van Don Joint Stock Company, a unit of Sun Group. The local developer Sun Group has already developed several landmark projects in Quang Ninh, including Van Don International Airport, Ha Long International Cruise Port, and other resorts and entertainment districts.
Vietnam, the region that historically holds a negative attitude towards the gambling industry, believes it to be the root cause of corruption and crime in society. But after witnessing the rapid growth of casinos in neighbouring regions, namely Cambodia, the Philippines, and Macau, the Vietnamese are looking to reconsider their stance on casinos.
According to the 2024 Vietnam Briefing Report, the nation’s middle class is expected to double by 2026. And the rising tourism in Phu Quoc, the Travel and Leisure Island of Vietnam, may encourage the government to lift those restrictions.
