Only days after the NFL announced its first sports betting suspension in nearly three years, a senior Arizona Cardinals official denied any wrongdoing.
The NFL announced on Friday that it had indefinitely suspended Arizona Cardinals director of college scouting Ryan Gold after an investigation found he had shared material non-public information concerning the team’s 2026 NFL Draft picks, in violation of the league’s sports betting policy.
However, on Sunday, Gold’s attorney, Mike Caspino, rejected the allegations, describing them as “blatantly false.” The NFL has not identified the individual who allegedly received the confidential draft information, and it remains unclear whether that person or anyone connected to them placed bets using the information.
He told ESPN that “We have demanded an appeal, and we look forward to clearing his good name.”
Caspino maintained that his client was unaware of the Cardinals’ specific draft picks, arguing that only owner Michael Bidwill and General Manager Monti Ossenfort had advance knowledge. Love was present at FanaticsFest over the weekend but was unavailable for comment.
In response to the betting allegations, Caspino asserted that Gold’s wife participated in a series of $10 weekly parlay wagers with a group of high school friends, while emphasising that Gold himself did not take part. Gold has not yet made a public statement regarding the case.
