The GLuStV has led to a significant drop in the overall revenue generated by the iGaming industry, falling to 3.22 billion Euros in the second quarter.
The State Treaty on Gaming 2021, or GluStV, has formulated strict measures for the German iGaming market. The objective of this treaty was to upgrade the security standards deployed in German casinos and reduce irresponsible gambling.
The primary goal of GLuStV’s existence is to crack down on unlicensed, unregulated, and illegal iGaming operators in the country. As per last year’s GGL report, it was found that over 800 illegal gambling websites are currently operating in Germany.
At the same time, it has definitely slowed the growth of the German iGaming Market, with revenue falling from 3.5 billion Euros to 3.22 billion Euros in the second quarter.
All German iGaming platforms might tentatively experience a financial blow from this reform. However, experts firmly believe this is just a minor setback, and the iGaming market will resurrect by the end of the year.
