Japan Seeks Global Help to Curb Illegal Gambling
HighlightsÂ
-
Japan has maintained a strong stance against online gambling, considering it an evil practice to society’s welfare.
-
Japan requested officials from places such as Canada, Costa Rica, Georgia, Malta, Anjouan, Curacao, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar to curb illegal gambling.
Japan has been showing a strong opposition to online gambling as part of restricting illegal gambling, labelling it a threat to society’s growth. It could also be a challenge to their plan of establishing integrated resorts, with the starting point being MGM Osaka.
To effectively combat illegal operators targeting Japanese players, they have approached the gambling regulatory authorities abroad. They have contacted officials in some regions, namely Canada, Costa Rica, Georgia, Malta, Anjouan, Curacao, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar, to take strict action against operators promoting to Japanese people.
Despite online casinos and sports betting being banned in Japan, this didn’t stop foreign operators from repeatedly advertising them to the local audience.Â
It has become increasingly difficult for the government to take action against every operator advertising and targeting the Japanese audience. Japan expects International Collaboration in its fight against illegal gambling.
