The gambling set aims to regulate daily fantasy sports operators, which were previously operating in the grey market.
On Tuesday, the Florida House of Representatives’ Industries and Professional Activities Subcommittee approved PCS for H189, which tightens penalties related to match-fixing, defines daily fantasy sports, and strengthens measures against illegal machines.
This amended version creates felony penalties related to sports betting integrity. Activities such as betting with prior knowledge of a fixed result and the act of bribery are all punishable offences.Â
The subcommittee approval comes two months before the start of Florida’s legislative session, which is scheduled to begin in January. Rep Dana Trabulsy has formulated the bill based on Tuesday’s session. She promises to collaborate with relevant parties and lawmakers to strengthen the bill.
The new proposal will regulate fantasy sports operators, who have been operating in the grey market in Florida. In this, fantasy sports is categorised as a contest with an entry fee, where players are granted control over a simulated sports team.
The language used ensures that the result is not based on individual performance, and the contest does not include known contenders.Â
